I have homeseer but use an approach you might use. Whenever my machines uses less than x watt I set a timer. The timer stops and resets whenever the watt becomes more than x. Is it a suggestion if you contact Fritz.box to request re-adding TelNet functionality in their next firmware update?
I´m sure they are unaware that they have now disappointed some (many?) users and that they probably don´t know about your plugin.
