Re: Visonic RIP?
A bit late in the day but: 1. Is there a better/cheaper alternative? I don't know. 2. What are the problems/annoyances you experience with Visonic? I had hoped to be able to use alarm motion sensors as more general motion sensors but they go into a sort of sleep mode fora few minutes after being tri...

Re: Powermax log request hang
I've only just got back to looking at this one. The hang seems to have happen if I send the wrong pin codes when starting a conversation. (0xAB 0x0A 0x00 0x00 <pin1> <pin2> 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x43). It seems a bit bizarre to me that I can arm/disarm, etc. when starting with the wrong pin and o...

Powermax log request hang
This may turn out to be an error in my code or perhaps some peculiarity with my connection but having spent a day scratching my head, I thought I'd ask here in case there is a problem with the panel itself. I have a Visonic PowerMax Complete with the RS232 interface fitted and I am playing with the ...

Re: How to detect power outage ?
As others have commented, your UPS probably provides a solution. We have a couple of APC units at home. They are monitored on Linux systems (one is actaully connected to a Raspberry PI) running apcupsd. With that particular setup, as far as I can remember, the default is to send an email to root whe...

LightwaveRF
I've recently changed a couple of swithches from HomeEasy to LightWaveRF. And am wondering where anyone else finds problems with it or it and the rfxtrx. I bought the switches (a couple of LW400 wall switches and a few plug in sockets) and at first glance, with their remotes, they seemed to work wel...

Re: RF is driving me crazy
I've not idea why they do it but I noticed the same with my Oregon sensors when I replaced the batteries. As for RF woes, things are a bit intermittent here. There is a trend where the early hours of the morning tend to be the worst time but conditions vary from day to day and I've been unable to pi...

Re: Real-time online websites
I've made some updates to my live page. When events occur, it now highlights the table rows for the devices/scripts that are affected for a couple of seconds. I think it makes it easier to see what's happening in real time.

Re: Real-time online websites
I'm still very much starting at this although it may be a while before I attempt to do more. There is a live text view of what I have done so far at http://pip.dulyn.co.uk/hometest It needs a browser that supports websockets. I know the current versions of Google Chrome (Linux and Windows) and Firef...

Re: Raspberry pi
I've an rfxcom trx attached to my pi for reasons of location (otherwise I'd have to have another PC on 24/7 to use the rfxcom where I want it) but I'm just running socat to provide a tcp socket on it. I updated the firmware before I started using it and have had no network or USB problems. I did con...

Re: Don't use AC door/window sensors
This seems to answer something I've been puzzling over for the last couple of hours (light switches quickly with "direct" rftxtx command but the same commands take a few seconds if sent in response to HomeEasy door sensor). I've looked at the DS90 but it's a bit bulky and expensive so woul...

Re: What Linux software are you guys using?
I recently bought a rffcom trx USB and tried a couple of off the shelf solutions. I'd looked at Misterhouse in past but found it a maze to get through so I didn't look at it this time. For a while I thought I'd pick Domotiga but in the end I've decided to try to go my own way (with Domotiga, I found...

Re: dom/bright switch Heyu X10commander with CM11
The rfxtrx sends X10 dim and bright OK. A couple of points you may want to note regarding status reporting: If a light is off, many (certainly all my dimmable X10 stuff) X10 dimmable switches will switch to on when they receive dim/bright (ie. you can not gradually dim up from the off state). I don'...
