Spontaneous restarts, why?

If your (rooted) Toon doesn't do what it's supposed to, post here. Dutch allowed / Posten in 't Nederlands toegestaan.

Spontaneous restarts, why?

Post by mogwai »

Hi All,

Today I saw my Toon 1 spontaneously restarting several times. I have no clue why this is happening and how to find out what is wrong. Any hints?

I'm running the latest firmware (5.13.12) and all toonstore apps are updated to their latest versions..

Thanks in advance.

usually Toon reboots when it runs out of memory (RAM).
Removing custom apps helps or disabling native functionality via the TSC tab in the menu

I already had most native functionality disabled (except zon op toon :)) and only a few toonstore apps installed. The problem magically disappeared again, let's hope it stays like that...

I saw the same thing after upgrading to 5.13.9 but I also didn't remove the native Toon apps so that might be it.
I will upgrade to 5.13.12 now and remove those apps.

I have also this issue. This evening he is restarting continously .
When I want to go in the menu it is working for 3 seconds and return to the main screen again.
After a few minutes Toon is freezing and I have to wait for a restart...

This afternoon it was working perfectly. I did nothing in between and now he is not working anymore...

Help?

Just updated to latest version, update was succesfull but Toon is still restarting complete time.

Also tried to remove some custom apps.. So I don't think it is the RAM memory..

Hello,

I use a Toon 1 with firmware 5.15.6 and I notice that the Toon restarts spontaneously and sometimes it gets stuck when I click on an app for example TSC menu.

I used the same apps as on the other firmwares.

Calendar
waste calendar
Temperature logger
Buienrader

Is there a log file somewhere so that I can see what the issue is and why the toon is acting so weird now with the latest firmware?

Regards,
Michel

This is most probably a memory issue. 4 custom apps is on the limit for a toon1. Please run update-rooted.sh with option -f as I have recently (13 days ago) added some memory tuning options for the toon1. Reboot afterwards.

I have the same problem, since 5.15.6 it reboot's randomly 2/3 times a day for no reason.
I have not installed any extra apps and only use it for power monitoring and never had such issue before,
can I downgrade the Toon to 5.13.12?

No that is not possible. But try another 'update-rooted.sh -f'. I recently add some memory tweaking options for the toon1. I think that helps a lot.

Unfortunately the problem came back :(. Today the toon is almost continuously rebooting. I check diskspace and memory usage and memory seems indeed full. Below my findings, maybe it gives usefull info.

I now run './update_rooted -f' and hopefully that fixes my problem. I also posted the 'top' result after running this, maybe somebody can check if this is 'normal' now...

Forgot to mention in my post, but I did issue a 'reboot' afterwards, so the 'top' results are after the reboot had finished.
