USB hub on ethernet

Post by kriz83 »

Hi,

I want to relocate my ESXI server (running BlueIris, HS3 and others) to a 'safer' (hidden) location upstairs, so thiefs wouldn't easily find and destroy or take it.
However, I don't have any PlugWise nodes upstairs, and my Oregon temp sensors can't be received up there.

Has anyone successfully used a usb hub which can be connected to the network, so I can leave that downstairs and connect to it from HomeSeer (to which they would still seem local) ?

Thx in advance !

I use one of these for almost 4 years now: http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-F5L009-5-P ... B000QSN3O6

Note: Only works with Windows.

I am using two Silex SX3000GBs for the past years now without any issues.

Using it with Plugwise, ZWave, RFXCom using different operating systems over time (Server 2008(R2), 2012(R2), Windows 7, 8.0 and 8.1)

Be careful with the cheaper, more simpler USB devices that only supports remote USB disks and printers; these may have issues supporting USB dongles such as Zwave, plugwise and others.

Mmmm ... might just order the RPI2 and run HS3 on it in stead of using it as a USB server.
With some soldering, it could replace my arduino which is connected to my alarm system/gate control in the utility closet.
