Changing the power supply for Harrison rail

Post by Bwired »

Good News:
Today I changed the energy consuming standard Harrisons Adapters for the switched "Dehner 12volt 500ma 6 watt" power supply.
I measured the power consumed when opening and closing the curtains.
In my case it was 3.5 watts, so this small new adapter can do the job.

In idle position, so if the motor is not used the Adapter is consuming < 1 watt, I can't measure it.
The standard power adapter is using idle 3 to 4 watts.
I have 6 rails so again around 16 watts reduction.

The Dehner (Sunny) switched adapter is costing Euro 8.99 at www.conrad.nl

There is a post about it on the forum, but can't find it.

Pieter,
The standard Harrison version is 5 volt.
Is 1 volt extra not to much for 24/7

I have 2 rails.
When the saving is 6 watt hour. per year makes that 52,5 KWh / 11,50 euro

?
All my Harrisons rails are using 12 volt 1000ma.
A big old Power supply with low efficiency.

Changing the power supply for Harrison rail

Just for support: I also replaced the HUGE-BIG-GIGANTIC adapters and bought the same -switched- powersupply. I am feeding two rails at the same time (1 meter and 5.5 meter), no problems at all.

At the back of my living room a have two rails as well (6.5 meter) with also 1 power supply.
If I close them after each other just to be sure.
And yes the original is a big ass power-supply [:D]
