RFXcom (lan) with DomotiGa (for KAKU)

Post by insomniux »

Hi,
Being quite new on the field of domotica I hope to find some help here.

Purpose for my domotica adventure is that I have to replace an old setup (Openbrick server (Linux) + Velleman K8000 + KAKU WST-8800 switch). After 8 years 24*7 uptime, the Openbrick died after a power interruption. Since the new fanless MoBo's lack the parallel port (for the K8000) I had to opt for new solutions.

I just purchased a new fanless server and a RFXCom (reciever+xmitter/lan). Tried it in a virtual WindowsXP environment and it works (can switch KAKU and receives signal from KAKU transmitters). But now... Installed Domotiga on my server and laptop. OK, first see if we can operate the RFXcom from the laptop. After setting up the connection data (IP address and ports) and a restart I find this in the log files:

Code: Select all

2011-03-12 16:33:23 RFXCom receiver support enabled.
2011-03-12 16:33:23 RFXCom receiver TCP interface connecting to 192.168.2.100:10001
2011-03-12 16:33:23 RFXCom receiver Relay disabled.
2011-03-12 16:33:23 RFXCom transmitter support enabled.
2011-03-12 16:33:23 RFXCom transmitter TCP interface connecting to 192.168.2.100:10002
2011-03-12 16:33:23 RFXCom transmitter Relay disabled.
...
2011-03-12 16:33:23 RFXCom transmitter TCP socket connected.
2011-03-12 16:33:23 RFXCom receiver TCP socket connected.
And sending some commands with the command-tool shows this:

Code: Select all

2011-03-12 16:36:17 Version request to transmitter => F030F030
2011-03-12 16:36:17 Transmitter Firmware Version: 43
2011-03-12 16:36:23 Cmd to transmitter => F03DF03D
2011-03-12 16:36:23 Enable KlikAan-KlikUit RF
2011-03-12 16:36:23 [RFXComTX] NAK=>5A
Next I try to turn on/off the

Code: Select all

2011-03-12 16:39:25 [RFXComTX] 20609F00FF
2011-03-12 16:39:26 [RFXComTX] ACK=>37
2011-03-12 16:39:26 20609F00FF2011-03-12 16:39:26 [Devices] Device 'X10' with address 'A01' and interface 'RFXCom Receiver' not found!
 A1-On bits=32
....
2011-03-12 16:39:26 20609F00FF2011-03-12 16:39:26 [Devices] Device 'X10' with address 'A01' and interface 'RFXCom Receiver' not found!
 A1-On bits=32
This suprises me, since I've chosen the ARC protocol (not X10) and the RFXCom receiver was available (although some commands returned NAK)

Is there someone who can help me get this going :)
Thanks

This is question that should have been posted in the DomotiGa forum http://www.domoticaforum.eu/viewforum.php?f=38

I don't know how to configure the RFXmitter in DomotiGa but I guess you have configured a transmitter while you should have configured a RFXmitter.
(Version 43 is a RFXmitter and)

Mmm... no, the RFXmitter option in the configuration section of the RFXCom Transmitter is selected. I guess this is should be OK.
Any other options?

If you have the rfxmitter setting enabled, you shouldn't see the line Enable KlikAan-KlikUit RF!
Are you running the latest version 0.1.195?
If so can you post or mail me the whole log where the interface get it's init? I also don't see any set handshake or no handshake mode lines.

I have the newest version (0.1.195) installed. The Enable KlikaanKlikuit line is generated after klicking the enable-ARC button.

It's right, I've turned of handshaking because that didn't work as well. I'll post the logs of both scenario (with/without handshaking):

With handshaking off:

Re: RFXcom (lan) with DomotiGa (for KAKU)

Post by RDNZL »

I have made some changes to the code, so we can see better which type of interface is enabled in the logs. And which one is used throughout the code. Please update yours.

The RFXCommander under Tools menu is not adapted to control the xmitter yet, the tabs under transmitter don't work correctly since the protocols are different. I will fix this.
Did you use them to switch your device on and off for testing and generate the logging?

If you use the Control page to switch your device on and off, which device type did you choose?
Because the type of the device select the protocol to use.

You said handshaking didn't work, but the logs show a good initialized handshake mode, what exactly goes wrong then?
Of course when handshake is off you get your sended packet directly back via the RFXCom receiver.

I've downloaded and installed the newest files. Since the executable file seemed not to be updated, I run domotiga from the source. The log now shows:

Code: Select all

2011-03-13 13:48:06 Initialized xmitter for Handshake usage with => F033F033
2011-03-13 13:48:06 [RFXComTX] ACK=>33
2011-03-13 13:48:06 Version request to xmitter => F030F030

2011-03-13 13:48:06 2C2011-03-13 13:48:06  ACK
Indicating that your changes are implemented here as well....

For my switch I used the KAKU PAR 1000 module, since it was the only which uses the ARC protocol. That's the protocol used in the windows test program, which seems to work. When I click the bulb button I get: an error message saying that it expects an integer in CRFXComTX.KAKU.641

With respect to the handshaking... I didn't mean that handshaking did'nt work, rather than that using the handshaking option did not change the unresponsiveness of the KAKU switch. I'm not sure if handshaking (in this context) means handshaking between the client software and the RFXCom module or handshaking between the RFXCom and the Switch (forgive my ignorance.... :oops: )

Handshake is the connection between the RFXmitter and the receiver. When used it avoids RF collision and the reliability will increase.

In Windows you have to use the RFXmitter.exe to control the RFXmitter device. You can also select the AC tab and transmit KAKU codes for KAKU devices with the learn button.
ARC protocol is also accepted by the KAKU with learn button but you cannot send dim level commands so use AC.

I fixed this bug in latest code, and I also updated the binaries this time, thanks!

Bingo! Switching the KaKu signal using the ARC command works now! Great :D

Next I'll try to figure out how I can control the devices and get it installed on my server to run automatically....

Two additional questions @RDNZL:
1. I have a squeezeserver/squeezebox combi. When enabled it is recognized (all devices), but I can't figure out how to control it. Which settings should I use in the Squeeze Player dialog
2. Don't know if this is available at all: I have a temp/hygro-sensor of TFA-dostmann. It communicates on 433MHz. Have no idea if it can communicate at all with the RFXreciever. Would be nice. They're very affordable and quite reliable.

@b_weijenberg
Thanks for the explanation. For me it's not clear if the AC/HE protocol can be used for these one-way switches in Domotiga, is there a way of 'leaning'?

Hmm it's not finished yet, I will put it a bit higher on my list.
The basic interface and protocol is there, but the gui is missing :|

OK, would be nice to be able to control some parts of my Squeezebox, however, i've some issues which are more important to me.. :-)

So my Transmitter is an RFXmitter and the device (Lan) had a normal RFX receiver. I can control some KAKU switches through the ARC protocol.

Now, how can I catch a signal from an ordinary KAKU wall switch (e.g. the WST-8800, it has 2 switch-wheels, no learn button).

Also, when I program an event (e.g. switch on/off an ARC-type device) based on cron-timing (time-now) I see it change its status in the device overview, but the device is not triggered. Still, I can switch the device on and off manually on the Control pane. So timing works, the device is controllable, but it seems that no signal is sent to the device (through the RFXmitter), the trigger does not fire (I set: Value1 => "On" or "Off")

Third.... (sorry).. I have a small server on which I have the database installed, and "DomotigaServer -d" started. How can I test if the server is actually going to work, It appears that I cannot connect both my workstation and the sever simultaneously. Is this a wrong setting in the config files?

Mmm... for testing it would be nice to have an event which switches on and off e.g. every minute. Can I that be done in one event (check every minute and switch on (if current status is off) and vice versa. Or should that be done in two events?

Thanks for your help!

Can you enable debug for events, devices and rfxmitter, and sent the debug log (mail address in readme file)
Please also mail the address or name of the device and event id.

Start DomotiGa, and make sure that under Setup->XMLRPC is enabled, also UDP broadcast.

Then start the DomotiGaServer script.

You also have to make sure other machines in your network may connect to mysql (this is off by default).

Code: Select all

$ mysql -u root -p
Enter password:
...
mysql> GRANT ALL ON domotiga.* TO domouser@'%' IDENTIFIED BY 'kung-fu';
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.01 sec)

mysql> flush privileges;
Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.01 sec)

mysql>quit
Now on your other machine edit domotiga.conf and change:
Host="localhost" to your servers ip address and
Mode="server" to "client"

If you then start DomotiGa, you should be able to control your devices and see logs etc...
Only tools like RFXCommander are not usable in client mode, because the server opens the sockets now.
You can only have one connection at the time to RFX interfaces, but you can connect to DomotiGa's RFXComRX relayport to snoop the traffic with RFXreceiver.exe
Mmm... for testing it would be nice to have an event which switches on and off e.g. every minute. Can I that be done in one event (check every minute and switch on (if current status is off) and vice versa. Or should that be done in two events?
Update your domotiga code.
Then create a event with trigger If Variable "Minute" <> 61, to trigger every minute.
Then create an action with Set Device Value1 to "Toggle"

Code: Select all

2011/03/15 11:29:00 Z-Wave Switch status changed to Off.
2011/03/15 11:30:00 Z-Wave Switch status changed to On.
2011/03/15 11:31:00 Z-Wave Switch status changed to Off.

Thanks Ron,
All settings were correct, however there were 2 issues, which may have been a problem.
1. I changed language to Dutch. Then it stored "waarde1" in the database, instead of "value", as value for the parameter name.
2. I created the 'toggle' switch (nice idea!). But the keyword "Toggle" is not accepted. The keywordt "On" is accepted now.
This proves that my configuration actually works now (Thank God or whoever...), however language needs to be English and Toggle does not work for the RFXmitter, though it may work for the Z-wave... Have looked at the code but also do not see any line where "Toggle" as a String is evaluated .... Or am I wrong????

The other issue was how to catch signal from the RFX receiver from a KAKU transmitter.

Thanks for your help!
