So yes your VPN config is gone. I have been told that you have rooted your toon years ago using the Quby method (and they removed your VPN config for that).
You can contact me in a PM so I can sell you a VPN config from old broken toon.

Therefore support for signature keys (needed for app installations on older firmwares) has been dropped as well.
I got a bug report on a Toon 1 with this version. I took it offline to investigate further. Version 3.0.3 is now the actual version in the ToonStore.
If you already installed 4.0.0 and it is working fine then no need to take action.

version 4.0.0 is available again.
The issue was that in certain circumstances the default value for showing the tray icon is set to false if it was never specified before.
If that happens, go to the ToonStore via the Toon menu and select the right settings in the 'Instellingen' page.

Rooted Toon with latest firmware, 5.15.6, then installed toonstore_2.1.4-r0_qb2.ipk found in this topic, and after some reading updated resources, then the toonstore icon showed up, which it first didn't without the resources, but it is impossible to update the toonstore app to 4.0 or download and install any apps.

if I delete the content of "/mnt/data/update" this has no effect.
how to fix this?
UPDATE: since the more then 10 hours of orwellian check to get this message posted manged to already solve this paradox.. installing toonstore 4.0.0 fixed this. but you cannot install it, so installed it manually by downloading the zip from github and placing the unzipped folder in the correct folder on the toon and making a simlink to the folder. and deleting the old simlink and folder of the previous version.

Did you follow the manual?

I think you didn't run the update-rooted.sh script with option -f to finish/finalize your rooting.
Else, just remove the very old toonstore (remove the whole /qmf/qml/apps/toonstore dir) and just install the new onze.

This is how you should have done it indeed. You went wrong installing a very old toonstore but you managed to fix it yourself. Within a few days the github will be the main location where toonstore will install the apps from. Need to change some scripts for that.

Important UPDATE!
From now on toonstore apps will be installed from
https://github.com/ToonSoftwareCollective and not from the forum fileserver anymore. This also means that we don't publish new versions of apps anymore on the forum fileserver. Every new version is now maintained within github which allows everyone to contribute and see what is changed by reviewing the commits.

a new version of ToonStore is available in the ToonStore

This version 5.0.0 will install via github for the first time. Also all future installations of the apps will come from github.
The use of github allows easier collaboration and contribution to the development of all apps (looking forward to your pull requests

Note that the apps on the domoticforum.eu fileserver will not be updated anymore, installation ipk files will not be created anymore.
New updates of the apps will be available via ToonStore 5.0.0 only which require firmware 5 on your Toon with our latest resourcefiles.
If you are on a pre-5 firmware you can of course continue using that but you cannot install any app update anymore.

- change location of app repo to github (including all apps available in the toonstore, screenshots and changelogs)
- all apps will be installed via the github repositories

Hello,
Do we need first uninstall the old apps?
Than upgrade the new ToonStore and reinstall all the apps?
