rooting works and your meter adapters also continue to work. From a rooting perspective there is no difference between Toon and Boxx.
After rooting the services which are depending on Engie servers will not work anymore and the Boxx will be fully disconnected from Engie. However, all other subscription features will be available on your Boxx without official subscription.
And you get access to the ToonStore with a lot of free apps for Toon/Boxx

Hello !
I'm a former user of Boxx (Engie Belgium) with a Boxx only working in local, as service was interrupted.
I tried to root my Boxx yesterday, got pretty far in the process, but couldn't achieve it.
I used this https://github.com/ToonSoftwareCollecti ... -USB-Stick
When executing root-toon.sh, I see that the script has some response from Boxx, but nothing is pushed to it.
My Boxx firmware version is 6.3.2.

At some point of the script execution, if the timing is good, in the software menu of the Boxx, a firmware update is avalaible, but when I click on update, there's an error message (no update), and the script freeze.
I don't really know what I can try next. I don't want to completely brick the thing, as I'm still using it as a thermostat for heating the house.

I'm stuck on activation with my boxx (sw: 6.3.2). I connected to the wifi successfully, changed iptables in my router to redirect all TCP traffic which are destined to these IPs that the boxx was trying to connect to:
18.195.232.63
18.197.176.216
3.64.16.110
54.93.42.183
to 34.250.109.126 (vpn.eneco.toon.eu)
Although it shows the service center is not reachable, the Activation button shows up. I press it, the exchange happens while the ./activate-toon.sh is running and I got the prompt with the empty name/address once + the response on the screen that it was sent. I clicked Bevestig and then it came back to the code screen telling me that it can't reach the service centre: "De verbinding is verbroken. Probeer het over een paar minuten opnieuw of controlleer jouw internetverbinding."

This I could reach once and didn't get this far ever since, just the same error message as above after trying.

I'm not sure what else should I be doing but when its connected to the bogus ToonRouter wifi network, it doesn't seem to communicate anything anymore via the internet. Any ideas would be very welcome, also in Dutch - it's just it's much easier for me to write in English, I hope it's ok. Thanks!

Update: after a reboot of both the Boxx and the computer with Kali it worked out, activation is ok. The rooting process itself took numerous restarts of both Kali and Boxx but it indeed worked out. The largest issue was with the downloading of the files from github for some reason with the collected errors saying _/tmp/dropbear_2015.71-r0_qb2.ipk: no such file or directory_. After starting Firefox and going to Github on the Kali it started to connect correctly and download the items needed.
**Thank you very much to all who were involved in developing this method!**

Hello!

I have an Engie BOXX in Belgium. Since Engie discontinued support for it, I decided to root it yesterday.

I followed the guide here: https://github.com/ToonSoftwareCollecti ... -USB-Stick

First, I activated it, which successfully reconnected all my sensors (solar panels, water, gas, etc.) to the Boxx.

However, the initial root attempt wasn't successful. So, I performed a factory reset, which resulted in an older firmware version.

Following the reset, the root process worked successfully during an update to firmware 6.3.70, as indicated by a notification.

Unfortunately, now my Boxx isn't displaying any sensor readings, and I don't have access to the features I'm supposed to get after rooting, such as Toonstore apps (https://www.domoticaforum.eu/viewtopic. ... 00&t=11235).

I apologize for being a newbie, but could anyone help me troubleshoot this issue?

EDIT : I see here that after a factory reset, it isn't more possible to activate a Toon with the software method (https://www.domoticaforum.eu/viewtopic.php?t=13718). And I read that a hardware root isn't possible on Toon2. Could anyone confirm it is the end of my dream of a rooted Boxx?

I have a R10 version which i try to root. I have rooted 06 and 08 version succesfully but the R10 gives me a hard time. I have used the following manual https://www.domoticaforum.eu/viewtopic. ... 10#p83745n and every step goes well untill the very last one: "load_image u-boot.bin 0xa1f00000" this will give no respons from openocd, the other steps do like "reset halt" etc. Minocom, telnet en openocd all works fine. I use a pi 3 with an USB serial converter.
Does anyone knows what goed wrong?
