TOD with bluetooth 4.0

Post by Snelvuur »

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/row ... f=category

Its a bluetooth 4.0 device which is small enough to attach to stuff/place in a car and communicate. Have not read everything but it might be something good.

i think i will order this
if we connect a bluetooth 4.0 device to our Home automation system we can do very nice things
it also has a developer tool.

•Bluetooth Smart 4.0 connectivity
•capable of running for years on a single coin cell battery
•adjustable transmission range from 3 to 500 feet
•small form factor, place anywhere sizing
•options for add-on module expandability
•active RFID-like properties with better range and power
•programming and debugging options for developers
•water resistant case

range is adjustable 500 feet meaning max 152 meter
not so many 4.0 devices yet, but the pebble watch I orderd has 4.0

Saying it uses BTv4
No, seriously; while reading about TOD I was thinking: what is it what TOD will enable me to do what I can't do without TOD?

But instead of some cool things popping up "which I've always wanted to do, but couldn't do with stuff that's already available", I did see a couple of "bears on the road", one of them being decentralization of the configuration of my domotica system.
Maybe I'm wrong, but I decided to just wait and see how it evolves.

I agree Robert, gadget factor is the most intresting :)
But there are some small things we can do, like putting 1 in your car (battery last for 4 years) you can see if your car(s) is (coming/leaving etc.) home.
We can use it for RFiD, we dont have to wait for Carlo anymore  (adjustable transmission range from 3 to 500 feet)
For a cat owners it can be a lot of fun.
but on the other hand I dont like bleutooth that much regarding installation of massive drivers etc.
still doubting to order.......

I ran across this post via a search. I've been looking to setup some simple home automation without needing a large proprietary and expensive system.

The Smart Beacon seems like a solid foundation that I can use for more than just an Internet of things. I've heard of ZigBee and it won't work with plug and play with my iPhone 4s, new iPad or my Mac and none of it ever made sense to me.

Since the Smart Beacon offers an open development platform and access to the firmware I can create anything I want, or from what I can see as they grow pickup some standard additions to make what I've gotten started even better. I'm not sure if it's that it's all plug and play with a soon to be ubiquitous standard like BT4 or that in addition to adding sensors and options for automation I can also use it as a proximity interaction system. My wife's excited to use it as an interactive family bulletin board.
