HomeSeer HS3 Plugwise Pro 3.5.0.0 beta!

Post by stefxx »

I believe it is time for a first beta. Please note that internally almost everything has changed, and also on the outside the changes are very noticeable. So take your time if you consider helping me with testing. Here is a list of a few of the changes:

- The plugin is no longer free. Beta versions will be valid and free for 1 month. But be prepared to upgrade sooner or later to the paid version because all settings, devices, events etc will be changed in the upgrade process.
- Support for multiple plugin instances is removed. Instead an unlimited number of gateways are supported inside the same plugin instance. This saves processing power, memory and is is also more intuitive.
- Stick setup is greatly improved. Communication with the stick is enhanced and much faster. Detection of devices, especially battery powered devices, is not only better but also guided to avoid issues.
- Manual adding of devices is removed (because of better device detection and internal changes)
- Devices are more "Z-Wave" style with a root device and all device values are now stored in separate child devices.
- Online/Offline status (Stick only) is moved to the root device
- Stealth modules are now working as expected with the Stretch
- The setup of the Stick, Stretch, Adam, Anna and SmileP1 is much more intuitive and contain an indication of the accompanying process is running.
- Logging is greatly improved. It is now possible to log to file for every device in a separate file. This will make troubleshooting much easier (also for me :))
- Script functions have been removed. Since there are separate devices for all devices values, they are no longer necessary.
- The same for the Plugwise specific events, they are no longer required also. For both script and events there will be a check during upgrade to warn for existing scripts and events still using the old functions. Manual changes will be required to fix this issues.
- The Stretch now supports the Switch, Scan and Sense (note: if you use the Switch and Scan, the experience will be a lot better if they are connected to the Stick. Due to the way the plugin communicates with the Stretch, Scan and Switch actions might be very slow)
- The Stretch 3.0 is now also supported.
- The Anna is supported, still experimental
- The Adam is also supported, even more experimental
- The Lisa has been tested with the Adam. Koen, Tom, Floor and Plug have not been tested and will most likely not work or cause issues. If you use those devices, please reach out to me so you can help me get them properly supported!
- The "Total usage" device will be removed. If total usage is required, please use a SmileP1 to really see your total usage. Or create a simple script to get the totals required. If this is really an issue for some of you, I can assist in creating a script.

PLEASE: ALWAYS MAKE A FULL BACKUP FIRST!

Last but not least; testing under Linux hasn't started yet. Feel free to try, but be prepared for the worst.

Unzip the file, and place HSPI_Plugwise_Pro.exe in the root of your HomeSeer folder. Also, unzip the images.zip file and place the content in <HomeSeer>\html\images\Plugwise Pro (usually "C:\Program Files (x86)\HomeSeer HS3\html\images\Plugwise Pro").

Good luck! Let me know how your upgrade experience was, and what you like or dislike about the new plugin. If you run into issues, please report them so I can fix them!

Update 2019/06/01: Beta 2 with the following changes:

Great!

The images/Plugwise Pro folder will be created by the official installer. That will be included in the official release through the HS3 updater.

Thanks for testing (and allowing me to access some of your devices!). Let me know if anything strange happens.

Finally time to install and setup. I have only circles (about 20) but all Seems ok. Seems we can finally use a “clean” power use value in events :-)

No plan to make the virtual Total device again.?

No. I always hated that option. The only reason it existed was because the Source program had a similar feature. But it was always inconsistent (for instance, the Stretch did
not support this) and I never understood why anyone wanted this half baked feature anyway. If you want whole house usage, try a P1 meter (Smile P1 or just a USB P1 interface), and if you want to have totals from all HomeSeer devices, do it right and don't limit it to the Plugwise circles connected to the Stick.

So, for anyone who insists on have a Grand Total device again, see here: https://forums.homeseer.com/forum/3rd-p ... ost1309452.

Hi, I cannot find the plugin in the updater. Currently using the old Plugwise Pro and I am willing to pay/upgrade but cannot find it in the updater. Is this also an issue on your side Stef?

Harry
