[SOLVED] Issue upgrading Toon2 from 5.33.9

Post by Rudolf »

Thanks to the PSA somewhere else in this forum I was triggered to attempt an upgrade of my Toon2.
(I was still happy with 5.33.9, because later versions may remove some OpenTherm-stats)

But it doesn't work, and I was unable to find another thread with the same issue.

The update starts, but doesn't download (stuck at 0%), and end with an error that tells me to check the logs, so I did.
Here's the log.

Welcome to the rooted Toon upgrade script. This script will try to upgrade your Toon using your original connection with Eneco. It will start the VPN if necessary.
Please be advised that running this script is at your own risk!

Quitting the upgrade. It was a nice try tho...
So the VPN is the issue.
I tried to run that manually, but no dice.

I tried it once more on a system that allowed to copy and paste the logs and now it seems to work fine...

Perhaps the VPN is flaky (loadbalancer?) and doesn't work reliably.
I tried running update-rooted.sh from the shell and supplied the version 5.49.16, but it still fails on the VPN.

When it tries IP '52.48.246.167:443', it won't work.
Since IP '108.128.193.17' does work I hardcoded that into the /etc/openvpn/vpn_port.conf.
Now the script can connect to VPN properly and starts downloading files.

I started this post as an attempt to ask for help. But I'll post it anyway, perhaps it's useful for anybody else.

Eneco has some VPN servers active with the old keys and the other half with the new keys.
Therefore setting up the VPN sometimes fails (if you end up at the wrong server).
Simply retry the upgrade until you land at a correct server.
