Jeroen - Thanks for your reply on the Elektor.com forum :)

As promised, a circuit for interfacing the older type 'spinning disc' electricity meters, with the transmitter's PIC.
My meter is in a very dark cupboard. The 'threshold' control can be adjusted to suit most light levels, but you can alter RX and the value of the control, to suit your specific setup. [:)]
A negative pulse of approx 100ms, appears on the output of the 2nd comparator (pin 7), each time the black area passes the optocoupler.
The length of this pulse can be changed to some extent, by altering the value of the 0.1uf capacitor between the comparators.

Hello
I have a question for this ELEKTOR project. I build this
circuit and it works very good, but I have problems with the serial connection (PIN 1 of receiver PIC to PIN2 of RS232 PC).
I set the serial PC Port to 9600 8N1, but i cant see any readable ASCII text, only bad characters.

Has anybody some hints about the serial connection, special the data format

Best regards from Haren / Germany

Heinz

Hi All,

Heinz, did you solve the problem with the serial connection? I also have the same problem as you have/had, can only get bad characters from WEM to PC hyperterminal (same settings as you used).

Did someone had suc6 with reading the data from the rs232 port? Tips/tricks?

Regards GOLI

Hi,

Maybe your serial cable is relatively long. I noticed this problem before with another application. Try a cable of 30 cm to exclude this cause.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I solved it by using another terminal program.

Now I only need some software to get the data into a SQL DB. Someone having a nice program for serial to SQL (Win/Linux)?
