BTW: I've got U-Boot up and running on this platform now. That allows you to have the board boot a Kernel over Ethernet...

No problem. I suppose <i>anything</i> is better than a product for which it takes well over <b>two months</b> to get even a quote.

Reply yes....but no Mini embedded Windows server.

4 GB Flash memory
512 MB internal memory
VGA
RS232
USB

@Chak: Why not get a VIA EPIA board with a CompactFlash card? You put up to 1GiB of RAM on it, it has built-in VGA (with an optional LVDS output to connect it directly to a TFT panel), two RS232-level sersial ports, two USB2.0 connections and much more:

http://www.sallandautomatisering.nl/?pid=30865&ref=2
http://www.sallandautomatisering.nl/?pid=29540&ref=2
This will set you back about 270 Euro, but it's probably cheaper than the box mentioned above. It will consume ~25Watt, less if you have an efficient power supply. And a 1.3GHz C7 Nemiah with 1GiB of RAM will be more than you need for Windows 2003 Small Business Server, running IIS and Homeseer.

Box from Cer is is small and usage is about 5 watt
Starting windows for CF is very slow....

Box from Cer is promoted, yet still without a price. 5 Watt usually doesn't yield processing power comparable to what I suggested above. You suggested to use HomeSeer and Windows, which Cer box cannot run. And tartup-time usually is no issue for a 24/7 online system anyway. The difference in power consumption, 20 Watts, will cost you an extra 35 Euro anually. So a higher price for the Cer box will eventually be paid back, but I doubt if you'd use such a system for much longer than 3 years, as a hobbyist
For the rest these systems a completely incomparable, given the difference in processing power. First you need to decide whether you go for a Linux or a Windows system. In the first case you could consider a 25 Euro Sweex router as mentioned above; It too consumes about 5 Watts and it offers a 225MHz MIPS32 processor, more than you will even need for domotica applications. Windows has higher demands, but it's much easier to configure.

Well,
I am testing a the fieldcommander els1700. I just pickup today.
Going to try the things that are now on my nslu2 and laptop, to replace on the fieldcommander.
First ipmression:
Looks very nice solid, and small.
It has 2 usb ports, audio ports, and serial and vga.
Out of the box, some software is installed.
Defualt it is debian etch (4.0) with a modified kernel, 2.6.22-3
apache, mysql and php are default installed.
For administration webmin is also installed
De audio chip is from amd (cs5535 chipset)
When booting and usb keboard attched and monitor you can connect to the box. Als sshd will be installed default so you can connect to the network when you are on the right subnet. ip default 10.0.0.1
Als over the serial console you can connect.
When logging on to the console if first modified the ip, default gateway and dns, so I put it on the internet.
apt-get update, and install digitemp. Connecting an usb-serial and ds18s20, iw worked fine.
Now i going to try to get working:
heyu (x10)
open2300 (lacrosse weahterstation)
xpl-perl (rfxcomm)
wel you will here more from, if you have questions or other related to the fieldcommander (els1700) let me know
