The idea of using a DS battery-monitoring chip came from here:

You could always use it to detect muons from cosmic rays too!

Now all we need now is one that reads gasses/fumes (co2) to see if your neighbourhood is not a highway (smoke) area

I've now attached a Figaro TGS2602-B00. It has a little 56mA heater in it and needs to be conditioned by leaving it in fresh air for a week.

I'm not sure where I can get that in England though!
