Is it possible to write your own code to communicate with the devices, by using the dongle on linux?

I don't want to use windows software, since my server is linux based.

If you plug the dongle in a linux machine, what is the name of the device. Anyone know?

Ron.

No Linux support yet, but they are planning!
However I think it will never be made possible to communicate directly to the USB dongle, at this moment Plugwise will not give it free.
The Plugwise Sofware has a sort of API function or you can use the small separate webserver which will do the communication. All is based on Windows for now.

Hmm, I don't run a windows server, and running one just for plugwise is not well... wise...

Is someone willing to plug the dongle into their linux server to see what dmesg is telling?

Is plugwise looking for linux based field testers by any chance?

What about the "stretch lite"? It communicates via tcp/ip with the software on another pc. Would be nice to talk/read from this device over the network.

Anyone has it?

Right
That is what the data in the source software is telling me!
for example the Airpurifier consumes 4.16 watt

it could be displaying to 0.01 of a Watt but increments in larger steps ? - just an idea

Yesterday I bought the Plugwise startpakket.
Today they send me the box with goodies before they have the money on the bank. Very good service from Plugwise.

I can't wait to play with it.

Just received my starters kit, it contains a classic usb -> serial convertor.

ftdi_sio 1-1.1:1.0: FTDI USB Serial Device converter detected
drivers/usb/serial/ftdi_sio.c: Detected FT232BM
usb 1-1.1: FTDI USB Serial Device converter now attached to ttyUSB3

Seems to communicate at 9600 baud.

Start to think about buying a start kit too...

Hello,

My startpakket arrived today. The installation took me less the 10 minutes. Everything works fine butt I have some questions:
- When I use the circle in the pantry most off the time I don't reach it with the usb device. The distance between the usb device and the pantry is about 10 meter with one wooden door in between. Is that normal. I thought this system works on a larger distance.
- For most of the devices in my house it isn't profitable. The cost of the circles are to expensive. Does anyone has tips for me.

Do you know how to communicate with the device? I thought the protocol was closed and you can only use it with 'The Source'?

@aeh: i thought it was zigbee protocol, doesn't every 'plug' act as a repeater too? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZigBee)

Yes it does.

One nice feature is the web based part of the application.
It's a minimal feature. I like to enable and disable the circles on my PDA but the on an off buttons in the application doesn't work on a PDA. Has anyone a solution for this??????
