OTGW NodoShop Version and power to thermostat

Post by mcc05 »

Hi,
Can someone help, with the Nodoshop version does the passthrough allow the powering of the thermostat off the opentherm line i.e. 24v ?

Thanks

Yes, it does. I've installed my OTGW from Nodo-Shop yesterday and the thermostat doesn't require additional power, i.e., it powers from the OT line.

First of all, Opentherm doesn't power a thermostat at 24V. It's normally 8V, and can be raised to 18V (High Power) using the Smart Power feature. But if your thermostat can be powered from the Opentherm line, then the OTGW can do it. Even if your thermostat requires Smart Power and your boiler doesn't support that. For that situation the OTGW has to be in gateway mode. If by "passthrough" you mean monitor mode, then that specific case cannot work (Smart Power has to be negotiated, and the OTGW can't modify the negotiation in monitor mode). All other cases (no Smart Power, or Smart Power that is supported by the boiler) will work in both gateway- and monitor mode.

I guess I should have just waited for someone more knowledgeable - like the OTGW developer :D - than me to answer this question. I've learned something new about how this thing is powered. Thanks!

Just a quick heads up, try giving them a call, possibly they can help.
Alternatively, do you have friends or neighbours with properties in the EU, maybe ship it there and have it come back to you in their luggage as an inexpensive but very worthwhile gift.
All the best and dontya just love beaurocracy!
