Purchase new thermostat for OTGW?

Post by Gerald »

Hello,

I got an Elco Euron Boiler controlled by an Albertros QAA73 Thermostat. Recently I put an Nodo OTGW between these devices.
The Nodo board is from 2024 V2.13. PIC is updated to 6.6. The firmware is 0.10.3+e334c42. The OTGW is connected over WIFI per MQTT with my Home Assistant instance.

I was pleasantly surprised when all the data of the OTGW were picked up by Home Assistant, assigned to entitys and even showed up in the dashboard complete with icons. There was even with an field in the dashboard where I could change the setpoint temperature and turn on and off the heating. My goal to create automations on changing the setpoint temperature and the heating on/off setting seemed to be within reach.
Alias my thermostat seemed to override all my changes immediatly and set them back to his saved values. I suspect this happens as there is no opportunity to set it to slave.

My question is: Would you advise me to purchase an alternative thermosat who could be set to slave or to remove the thermostat altogether, doing all settings to the boiler by automations? I need also to controll the hot water.

I studied and found the Honeywell TR6 might be an option, but there seem to be some versions around and I'd like to avoid buying the wrong one. There is an Home and a Lyric and I only want to purchase if it really solves my problem.

Thanks for any help.

I have purchased and tested the Honeywell T6R. Alias all the settings of the OTGW are overwritten by the thermostat.

How do you mean, "all the settings of the OTGW are overwritten by the thermostat"? There is no way the thermostat can overwrite all settings. It may not accept some thermostat related settings from the OTGW, but it has no influence on the boiler related settings. Usually when people make a remark like this, they misinterpret the OTGW log. Please give a few examples of settings that you think the thermostat overwrites and provide a log around the time when you tried those settings.

I was even told that the Honeywell T6 accepts temperature overrides as long as you specify a change of whole degrees. I don't know for sure if it works the same with a T6R, but I would expect so. They are basically supposed to be the same thermostat. Only one is wired, the other one communicates via RF.

First thanks a lot for replying to my request. You are correct of course. The thermostat overwrote the set temperature and hot water set temperature so I assumed it would also overwrite all other settings if they were provided by the thermosat.

Next issue was that the OTGW suddenly provided no values from the boiler to my home assistant instance. I assume that by all the turning off and on of boiler, OTGW and the thermostat I must have damaged the OTGW board,´.
The Honeywell went back to the seller and the OTGW into the waste bin. Later that day I took the OTGW out of the waste bin and ordered a new board from NODO which has arrived in the meantime.

The Albertros QAA73 is much more powerful than the Honeywell, allowing to set the heating modes and the hot water mode, alias it does not allow the set temperatures to be overwritten.

My problem is that I don't know if the comparison of the set temperature with the actual temperature happens in the thermosat or in the boiler. I thought I can overwrite the set temperature and then everything else will happen automaticly. My next mistake seemed to be that I assumed if I remove the thermostat from the OTGW that I can send the values from the Home Assistant instance the boiler and it will follow my orders instead those coming from the thermostat.

If someone could point me out in the right direction I'd be very grateful.

I will now start over with the new OTGW board and try to learn more about the system.

Thanks again and best regards,

Gerald
