Last years I was using KPN online backup.
This is working okay for the normal user.
I have more clients and some other storage devices that I like to backup with my own tools. KPN backup is for a single machine.
What I need
Backup from Windows/MAC/NAS
Backup to another location (No NAS box at home)
What are the alternatives?
Rapidshare is offering 500gb for 56 euro.

Dont know what you want, but having 160gb as a dedicated server.. http://www.leaseweb.com/nl/products/ded ... ckages/34/ comes at 39 euro's.. but also remmeber you can host your websites and your mail etc etc on it (which is a extra advantage) but that also depends on your wishes..

I got also two machines in a datacenter, one of them is purely backup the otherone runs all my services. How much space do you need and how much bandwidth?

Both my parents and my girlfriend parents have Internet. Just put the NAS in the Fuse box Closet and schedule the Rsync options of the NAS. Much better then having your data at a Datacenter and god nows what happens with it. In times of crisis your supplier have to be really reliable!

You can get space for a 1U server with +/- 300GB data use for arround 35 euro per month in a datacenter.
500GB data would be a bit more (arround 45 euro I think)
It also depends on the power use of the server, but I think your server will be green, so no problem with that.
I can ask the place where I have my servers if they still have room if your want (you might get a special price)

You will find colocation for 25 euro a month but usually with limited traffic. and you still need to get your own server. It also has to run less then 0.5 amps to stay in the lower range of prices. My guess is that an extra storage somewhere else is the best option for you now. Even a networked harddrive or a router like the Fritzbox with an external HD on it will do, you don't need a full NAS for backing up private stuff. One good NAS at home and a remote disk somwhere else should do the trick.
@Pieter. Seems you have some bad experiences with datacenters. I agree it is a bit of a mess but to have my server running in a clean enviroment, with plenty of bandwidth, good climate control and a gas system to kill fires is worth the money if you want something up 24/7. In the past the speed of my home network was an issue but sice we can get 120mb/10mb that is no longer the case. But my line has frequent loss of connection. UPC is clearly not a stable connection, at least nog good enough for a webserver or VOIP system and I have a hardtime getting my backups in on a dailybase.
