Hi all, i'm testing a new ip camera that works with motion detection, sending a snapshot via mail. the problem is that i'm forced to use authentication smt in the setting. this won't work with my adsl provider. So i was thinking to use a sw smtp server that gets email from webcam and then sends it out : POSTCAST SERVER. it gets email from webcam but then the email are REFUSED by my email account as coming from an IP ON BLACK LIST.
Who does know a free email account that works with POSTCAST ? http://www.postcastserver.com/download/release.aspx?p=3

Does your isp not allow you to send mail from your ip or does it not allow certain points? perhaps we know of alternatives.

I don't know, it's a rubber wall Nobody does know, good customer service..
I did this :
Postcast can NOT send to my free private email (ITALY)
Postcast can NOT send to my email (mail of the ADSL provider) (ITALY)
Postcast CAN send to my job mail (SUISSE)

There are some possible problems regarding mail, thanks to spammers.

You properly need to set up a MX record to your IP and open to your mail server from the net. The receiving mail server will want to confirm your server.

My ISP sets all there IPs on a blacklist. I then have to go to the blacklist and get my IP of it. They do it once en a while.

Most mail server greylist mails. So Postcast need to be able to resend.

Maybe you can set up an accept of your mail server by white listing it on you mail account?

And so on.

Do you get an answer mail, that tells why you are rejected?

I don't get any answer mail, but in the POSTCAST log i see :

mail to my free account : error 504 , not delivered (mail remains in "exit folder")
mail to my adsl-provider mail : your ip is blacklisted (mail remains in "exit folder")
mail to job-email account : NO PROBLEM, it works perfectly

I can not get my snapshot email at work.....

So why dont you use your providers smtp to send mail? i presume you just want to send a email out right? If you want "receiving" mail then you get mhn's story and most of the times you can forget it.

Because if i use my provider's smtp it doesn't work.

The cam needs authentication field , but my provider works without authentication . In fact my pc-outlook uses provider's smtp without authentication and it works perfectly

Can you just not create say a google account or similar and use there smtp settings? I mean, i assume you dont mind if it comes from a different address as long as it gets there

i tried with google , but it didn't work. could you tell me the settings? i used:

user : my complete google email address
password : my email password
smtp : smtp.gmail.com

the cam has authentication field (required) with 2 options : PLAIN or LOGIN. i tried both with no success

What type of camera is it? Perhaps that will shed some light too (i dont use google mail myself, but i know others on the forum do)

for google smtp you need different port number. see help info on google site. it's pretty good explained but you need to read carefully

I used the different port (thanks!) but it doesn't work.. this was very strange .. so i used the other way of the cam to send motion detection : FTP.
It doesn't work neither ! and i'm working on MY ftp server where i can set everything, permissions etc.
this drives me to set : camera with problems !
