Philips Pronto question

Hello,

I want to buy a Pront remote to control my X10 system in combination with HS. After surfing the web I got a little confused about the difference between the pronto models.
I did choose the SBCRU990 http://www.pronto.philips.com/index.cfm?id=1206but when reading the online manual, there is a line witch explains the use of a "wireless extender" (?)
I thought the pronto remotes have got an IR and RF mode, so why an wireless extender ? If I switch the remote to RF-mode, it should be working with my X10, should it ?

Can some one tell me if this remote is suitable for my needs with X10 and HS with no further modifications ?

Thanks

Wil

What I know from the RU970 (older model)
There is no X10 radio in the pronto.
the IR signal must be converted to X10

This can be done via IRX35

For HS control you can better go for the TSU9600
there is a plugin available from Homeseer (freeware)

Or you can use the Marmitek IRRF7243 for IR to X-10 conversion.
I think the RF extender for the Pronto works on a different way then the X-10 RF signal. But if you put the RF extender in front of the IRRF7243 it will convert the IR from the extender to PLC X-10.

For HS control i use the IRtrans module.
It can send and receive IR form HS
http://www.irtrans.de/en/homeautomation/

I have the USB version there is also LAN version.

One of the project I'm working on is:
when some one push the doorbell
HS event will run and take a picture
and when I'm at home the TV will switch automatically to the webcam at the front door.
IRtrans will do the TV control.
HS plugin is for free

The reason I want a Pronto is the use of the RF. I don't want to point the remote to the IR receiver everytime.

BTW nice thing TSU9600 but about € 1300,- (darn !!)

the price of this unit is about 225 euro with one extender.

I don't know how the current software for programming the pronto is, but with my experience (i have the old pronto model). Philips and Software... not a good combination. I stopped with programming the 'thing' because the software were (read: was!) very bad and buggy with less updates. But i can't judge about the current versions so i hope the best for you.

[Offtopic]
(And No, i don't hate philips. :) You almost can say that we are very big Philips sponsers (unwanted) because almost everything in the house is from that brand. One thing i NEVER gonna buy from that brand again is a device wich can holds a cd/dvd in combination with software. Damn that's really stuff were i have lots and lots of bad expierences with)
Ironic? Philips.. the inventor of the cd? :-)

Related to my question I've got a good answer on the Homeseer board.
If you are interested see
http://board.homeseer.com/showthread.php?t=124044

It seems in combination with RFXCom (433Mhz) it's no problem using the pronto. Just enter the right X10 codes.

Thanks for your replies.

This is from www.xanura.nl Sorry guys its in Dutch only and no time to translate
check out also the Xanura IRIX35 and RFIX35.

‘All Lights On’ en ‘All Units Off’-knoppen

‘All Lights On’ en ‘All Units Off’-knoppen

The RU980 (also known as the pronto pro) is able to send RF as far as i know. This is the only module i know from philips which does it without the need of extenders. Still it has the old look and feel of the original pronto´s which was in my case (a bunch of years ago) to buggy and slow. If you want 20 buttons and you have fat fingers.. your screwed to name one of the issues i had. The logitech works nice to with its extenders, but if you change something you have to reprogram the remote and the extender which is time consuming (i have one in the corner, gathering dust) and you cant ´create´ your own message which is a real plus to me.
