With so many expensive "remote controls", this looks to be a better alternative.
Using a Nokia N770 (which can be found for less than 150 Euros, and is a "real" computer, running Linux) to control your Media Center with a very nice interface.
Unfortunately, it's only suitable for windows MCE (XP or Vista) - but if you use those, I think it's worth to try this out.

It sure looks nice and a good device for controlling Home automation, but I believe it has no Infrared. The Philips Pronto is a real remote control and the Nokia N770 is more a UMPC. But they have a lot of similarities. Thanks for pointing this out, real interesting.

Yes, it's no real "remote" (in the IR sense.) But it has Wifi, is "always-on", and can be easily programmed with open-source tools.
Meaning, with appropriate software, it could send all type of commands to the media center PC, and use it to retransmit it via IR, X10, etc.
I was impressed by how fluid the interface was, running on the "old" N770.

(bug report - or not!)
When you moved the thread to new section, I was no longer "subscribed" to it.
(It's a minor issue - I know. But if you ever come to change something on the forum code, you might want to check that out

Chak let us know how it goes...
I'll be interested when they expand it to work with open source media center projects (which they say they will once they get this version finished)
