I have bought a cheap touch screen monitor which I installed in my living room for control of the light and devices in my house.

<b>Download Attachment:</b> scherm.jpg<br />23.91 KB
I have written a VB6 programme so I can control the X10 light and devices.
Also I can look at the logging and monitoring that is taken place.
This program actually does the logging to my MYSQL server.
The screen is connected to my home server with a 5 meter VGA cable.
So there are a lot other nice things you can do whit it.
I can check my e-mail
Browse the internet.
Almost every morning I check the internet for road- traffic before I leave.
I can take over my mediacenter with a RDP connection and play music or a movie.

<i>After 1 minute of inactivity it is starting a slideshow which shows my personal picture collection.</i>[:D]

The display goes in a power save mode after about 15 minutes.
But I connected a X10 motion sensor in the living room which gives a signal to the screen to activate it again.

I am using this screen for almost one year now and it is working fine.
The resolution is very good 800 x 600 and the touch screen is working great.
You can use your finger or a pen.
The price is 160 euro. 20euro sending it to Holland

A pc is behind the wall i presume? Which you control with remote desktop or the screen itself. Price is nice though , a pronto tsu9600 is more expensive :)

Very nice what you achieved!
Quite an improvement compared to the former site, this one looks very good and is very much faster!

BTW, did you have to tweak Joomla to use it the way you do?

Thanks all,

Yes Digit you are right, the old site was very slow, so I started to reorganise it.
The site is must faster because of the hardware improvement and also a database administrator gives me some tips to optimise my MYSQL queries.

Joomla gives me a good template or fundament to build my site one.
I didnt tweak Joomla it is pretty much a basic install.
Most of the extensions are disabled.
I installed a PHP plug-in which makes it possible to use PHP code in an article.
For now I use the standard template, but it is relatively easy to load a fancier one.
I am now trying to make de submenus more flexible.

I wasnt very active lately and it is nice to see al the improvements you guys have made to your sites. It gives me an impulse to start working again, I ordered a water meter, so that makes the 3 most important monitoring sensors complete.

Great performance improvement!
Database improvements? creating indexes?

If the watermeter is from Alaxa then I really should be asking for commission. I think more then 20 people bought one there :-)

Hi Bwired,

Yes, it is the watermeter from Alaxa, you could have been rich :-)
The database improvements are.
- Using temporary tables
- Use smarter indexes
- Make better use of the WHERE clause.

I am going to be a real database prof. :-)
