Experiences with automatic (front)doorlocks

Post by Bastiaan »

Would like to hear some experiences about the use of doorlock systems that can be used in Domotica.
I am using a very simpel plastic ABUS system, that I could also get very cheap at ELV as components. It's been running for years together with my Homeseer and Visonic system. The Visonic sends a X10 signal when disarming and that also opens my (garage) door via a little wireless transmitter. It only needs a split cylinder and it slides over the original system. It can be opened by hand with a press on a (tiny) button or by turning a big wheel.

Now I am looking for a good way to close my front door. I could use the plastic ABUS again but it seems there are a lot better and stronger systems. I have seen LOXX as one of the first ones but it seems hard to connect with domotica and in the beginning it was not very user friendly.
At the moment I already have an electric door opener, controlled by my phone. Someone rings the doorbell, I pickup the phone to speak and by pressing 55 with the connection open, it also opens the door. Great system but I am missing a 'night' lock with it
Like my garage I would like to securely lock it when the alarm is set.

Please let me know what solutions are out there now, together with pro's and con's.

I have a LOXX system but still cannot get it to work with homeseer. Still trying to. My problem is also the night feature. I have new type doors where it has a 2 bolt (night) system. You have to manually lift the handle up to be able to use night locks. So no option yet for that.

Any tips on the LOXX system are welcome.

Bastiaan,

There are a few new locks coming into Dutch/European market for the front door.

Danalock:
see my earlier post domoticaforum.eu/viewtopic.php?f=8& ... amp;t=9556
On the Homeseer and Vera forums people have been discussing it on how to integrate it.
Very new product, still a bit buggy software it seems. But I´m getting one in a few weeks since it has Z-wave and Bluetooth.

Loxx
Already mentioned. There are rumours that a Loxx 2.0 will be coming. But no details yet known

Telelock
http://www.telelock.nl
I stumbled across this one. It does not exist yet and caters to the sick and elderly people at home who can´t open their doors themselves. But some kind of remote access is possible it seems.
There is also a YouTube video on it

Radaris Evolution
Expensive but apparantly a solid solution. Bwired and Willem4ever have it and have managed to integrate it into their home automation system. just search this forum .

Bastiaan,

I have Nemef RE as well. Nothing but positive experience with it - so highly recommended! :)

Thanks guys,

Robert are you using this one: http://www.nemef.com/en/site/nemef/Prod ... Evolution/
Same Pieter is using?

Seems an expensive solution....

Yep, the same as Pieter.
And yes, it may sound expensive. But it's a doorlock we're talking about, not an average light switch.

I trust the Nemef RE for >100% in that it does what it's supposed to do.
I've had a LOXX in its early days, but I removed it after 3 weeks or so.
It malfunctioned once so I didn't trust it anymore - IOW, piece of mind has its price.

All I can say is that when you decide for Nemef, you won't be disappointed.
And I think that all other Nemef users will say the same (Nemef users, where art thou?)

Does it also work with 3-point locks?

During the winterday those locks tend not to lock very easy. Some 'power' is needed on the key.

the Radaris does not open the door, it just unlocks it, so you can open the door

As I'm doing some research on door locks, I've also come across some other products (other than I posted earlier). I have no direct experience with any of them, perhaps other in this forum do?

Ubiqu
A Delft start-up company. They focus on B2B, but they also state they will 'soon' have a solution for the private homes
http://www.ubiqu.nl

Motorized Multi-point locks ('meerpuntssluitingen') with various remote controls. Very nice, but total costs (including installation) will run you >1000 Eur. And unsure if they are 'open' to various home automation systems:

g-u.com/en/door-technology/multi-point- ... es-21.html

Do it yourself catagory:

Build your own Lockitron with arduino:

Controlling a lock with an arduino and bluetooth low energy:

NFC doorlock

Interesting links, thanks for that!

I've put my aspirations a bit on hold now we are building a new home in Thailand. But at some point I will have to implement some western style locks there too. I have been able to open most locks there without much tools......

A house in Thailand, nice!

I know Thailand a little bit, from a long time ago doing some business there.

In Bangkok there is a germany company (Hafele) who sells western quality locks. Probably not cheap but at least you know it will be good quality

http://house.zebrahosting.nl if you are curious. We are now in the design phase :-) and of course the most important question will be what domotica system to use :-)

I think you can just by a electric lock and build you`re automation arround it. I have used the following with a fingerprint scanner

http://www.maaslandgroep.nl/elektrische ... ontroleerd
Running HS3PRO on PC with Z-Wave / OpenTherm / Plugwise / RFXcom / MQTT / XAP400 / Logitech Media Server and Squeezelite on PI`s

Hello Raymonvdm,

Do I understand correctly that a power cable needs to be connected to the lock inside the door? If so, that would mean serious hole drilling and cabling issues inside my front door.
Also I cold not find if the lock was SKG*** certified.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Cheers,
Olof
