LM12 lamp module reduces power output

Post by MortenHa »

This is a generic question, so I can assess if this behaviour is something I have to live with. The lamp itself is not important, used it for testing only.

Plugged in a regular light bulb lamp, output:40W. And the difference in output was significant. It's like its dimmed to 75%. I also tried a spotlamp(luckily my main source of light in the living room), no problem.

Another "annoying" behaviour that I discovered, was that it flickers intensely for about a 1-2 seconds before its starts dim using the DIM command.

Can I expect this from all lamps that uses "regular" light bulbs?
What is the cause of this? Imagine that the circuitry in the LM12 don't need that much power to do its work.

And if you read carefully on you LM12 you will notice that there is a 60W minimum load requierd.
If you use a 40W bulb that exactly what will happen.

There are other devices that supposedly can dim 40W bulbs, but I haven't tried them myself.

Hi Mortenha,
In the past (10 years ago [:)] ) I always had problems with the LM12, I never got it right! What I still use from Marmitek is the CM11a controller, MS13 motion sensor and the TM13 receiver switch. For all the other components I use the XANURA modules, like the Xanura DAIX10 for dimming. For the X10 controller I use the Xanura CTX35 but the CM11 is also good enough, still use this one for testing purposes.

Thanx Dowser! Thing is, I've been reading too many manuals lately. Too much to process :)
The lamp has been put back in storage.

Thanx for the tip Bwired, next batch of lamp modules will not be bought in ignorance :)

This is fun :)
