depends on the gadget.. in some cases you can just plug a 110v in a 220v without to much problems and visa versa. My razor for instance worked like a charm on both 110v and 220v. Check the manual/output on the sides of the chime, maybe it can tell.

the instructions on http://www.idobartana.com/hakb/modifyin ... #Modifying 110v to 220v said

1) Open the module by removing the four screws and take out the pcb (Printed Circuit Board).
2) Change the big, usually blue, 2.2uF/250V capacitor normally marked 1.0K/250V to 1.0uF/400V
3) Change the 330k 1/4W resistor close to the incoming power to 330k 1/2W, if its not already so. It should be physically larger than all other standard resistors
4) Change the MOV close to the incoming power from 130V RMS to 250V RMS if you have 220V and to 275V if your power supply is 230 or 240V.
5) Change the 22 Ohm 1W resistor mounted close to the small transformer to 47 Ohm 1W.
6) Change the incoming plug or use an adapter, reassemble.

what i cant understand is step 4. what's MOV?

I don't know how good you are with electronics/electrics but be aware that if you are not 200% sure of what you are doing, don't do it. These kind of manip can be a hazard and cause fire if not done correctly... You wouldn't want your house burning down while you're away and somebody rings the doorbell. ;)

I have done soldiering before. but it's just more of connecting wires to connecting heads and nothing of PCB type. so by theory it should be fairly easy.

attached is a picture of what SC546A innards look like.

job completed
4 things to change to
1) 1.0uF 275V capacitor
2) 47ohm 1w resisitor
3) 330kohm 1/2w resistor
4) 275V MOV

it works..
now the tone it plays is ANNOYING.. sigh. like some incomplete song or something.
