Gordijnrail Neta 12 in combination with MacPro

Post by Theo »

Hallo,

I want to install 2 automatic curtains, Neta 12. I want to control them both manually and by MacPro, Intel quad etc.because the Neta 12 doesn't work with a simple clock.
A few questions:
- does a Mac have to be active all the time, of can it do the curtain-job opening and closing job, starting from slumber position? Full time running is not very energy friendly.
- I read about the possible solution, with a RFx transmitter in combination with homeseer.
Is this the only way? And can anyone help me, since i am not that much web or PC oriented.
I look forward to your reply. If you want me to call you back, please send me your phonenumber.

Theo,

Best is to use a standard application running a small PC for example an EEE PC with the 433.92MHz RFXCOM transmitter.

1. Harrison has a program available to control the curtains. Cost 35 Euro
http://www.elekhomica.nl/product_info.p ... cts_id=672
2. HouseBot cost about 80 dollar. http://www.cebotics.com
With this program you are also able to control KlikAanKlikUit lamp modules to simulate presence.
3. Homeseer with RFXCOM plug-in, cost about 240 dollar. http://www.homeseer.com
This is the most complete Home Automation program with endless possibilities.

Bert,

Theo

Hi Theo,
Are you looking for a Domotica solution on Mac OS is general, or just a solution to open and close your curtains at a specific time? For the latter one you'd better find a simpler solution like a switching clock because having a PC switched on 24/7 for this purpose is not very energy efficient.
For a full domotica solution you may take a look at Indigo:
http://www.perceptiveautomation.com/indigo/index.html

We have left the Windows era behind us too: Keeping those machine running is just too much work and too much engineering. Soon my Windows 2003 Small Business Server will be replaced by Mac OS X Server and then we will have Linux and Mac OS machines only (Except for a Tek logic analizer that comes with Windows).

Indigo has only W800 support and RFXCOM in W800 compatible 32 bits mode. So Indigo can only receive X10 sensor and the RFXSensor. But even RFXSensor support is not standard implemented and needs some scripts.

Another Mac HA software XTension has partly support for RFXCOM receivers but not for the transmitters yet. www.shed.com

Thanks Mindbender and Bert,

I will only need a solution for the curtain job. There is a automatic curtain with a clock, but that is incredibly expensive and meant for heavy theater curtains. So is the price. The Neta 12 is 70% cheaper and has a small motor that cannot deal with a clock yet.

The Mac automation site mentioned a solution for not having the Mac 24/7 hours running. But I understand from Bert's comment that this solution needs programming. And that's I am not familiar with.
Perhaps more searches will bring me further.

regards,

Theo
