How good is a MS13 Marmitek

Post by drmacchi »

Hi all, i placed some ms13 in the forest around my home. they were in some little birds-house but i forgot to make some drain holes in the bottom. After last storm i found them swimming in 3-4 cm of water. Batteries damaged and left acid over circuits! i used some cleaning spray, solder all the new contacts. new batteries and they work again! Never been so lucky[:D]......and now there holes in the bottom

I have some around the home!
Did you drill the holes in the bird-house, or in the MS13?

You might consider spraying the circuit board with plastic spray (Make sure you do not spray the battery contacts). I have done this with all electronics that were mounted outside and it will make the equipment last longer.

Drilling a hole through the case is a good idea. It keeps the water out (condensation)

Another option is to use the MS14. It is a waterproof version of the MS13. Can be bought cheap on Ebay. Retrofit it with a 433 MHz transmitter and you are all set for about E 10.

the holes are in the bird-house. now the front of the house has a PET film of 2mms as protection for the windy rain, and detection of ms13 works very well
