Hi Guys,
I'm new to the forum and found already a lot of info that was very useful to me.
I recently bought a logitech harmony 1100 because my wife was getting frustrated with all the different remotes laying around [:D].
I'm looking for a reliable licht controller solution for my complete house.
Since these are my 1st steps in HA i see there there are a lot of different protocols and standards.
The Lichtmanager Pro of JBmedia sounds very good but i would like to know if you guys would maybe have some other sugestions.
Gr,
E

Connectivity is most important of all.
Ask your self where you want to end before buying.. is it going to be
HA or is switching your lights/devices with the harmony enough.
There is so much to choose from, but the forum can give you a good impression of what you could use or what is possible for your own wishes.
Basicly i would say : Match your choice with the the controller/software you are going to use.
JB is prooved to be working with the logitech i guess, so no problem with that. But then again ask your self what you want to do ...
take care
Its always easier to follow directions then finding out your self as starter.

That's absolutely true. As a beginner its like drowning in a pool of information. Product A is good and B is even better while C has more options and D has the most spliffy looks
Starting with conmtrolling lights and blinds seems like a good start and a nice introduction into this new world.
The reason why i ask this is i want to buy a system i dont have to throw away after a year because the protocol becomes incompatible or i'm not able to grow.

Well soon you like to intergrate the rest, so pick a device that is supported by the software of your choice.
For the logitech there was once a solution to send and recieve kaku thru a marmitek xs/xl ir extender.
As the marmitek sends out the recieved ir code in rf 433Mhz and should be recievable by the in the logitech database supported devices. ( i believe kaku, x10 and some others like the JBmedia ) Its not a very reliable option but it works in most situations. A cheap start if you want to switch the lights ( just google arround )
I started with some x10 long time ago, and then extended it with kaku and rfxcom... then upgraded my system with plc and zwave and recently some HomeEasy.
They all got their cons and pros and non of them is perfect.. but all together they work quite well.
If you talk about flexability, take a look at a rfxcom 433Mhz xmitter/transmitter and reciever. They are a nice start, supported by commercial and free software. Devices for it can be bought at your local diy shop. ( HomeEasy HEU ) ( KaKu klik aanklikuit)

Thanks Robin,
This gives me some stuff to think about this weekend. I found that if i would start with JBmedia it will run out of options pretty quick (exactly what i do not want).
I read some stuff about the rfxcom system and it's much more pluggable to all kinds of systems / protocols so thank you for these hints.
Lets see what the future will bring
Thanks for all the usefull info

Well it is hard to make a choice... as things depend on situations
I advise you to have look at rfxcom xmitter + irtrans.
These two devices are a good investment and will keep their value even in the future and should make it possible to switch the lights with your Logitech.
That in combination with the HEU devices would be a nice start.. and have a look at the rfxcom website for compatible software and make sure irtrans runs on that to !
Most of us here use Homeseer + a lot of plugins. With at least the above mentioned devices.
Oh and make sure you have been thinking about placement. Like a central place in the house for your xmitter can make the difference between coverage for the whole house or the need for an extra transmitter or reciever. Can be handy in making a choice for usb or utp. But then again there is always the belkin usb2utp hub.
Dont forget to see it as a hobby and make sure you have read all before you buy !!.

I've been looking at the homeseer stuff and it's also looking really nice. I have a 17" touchscreen for in-wall placement so that would be a good start.
I'm reading myself silly here but this was a good hint in the right direction.
Thanks again and i'f i've got pics from my project i'll post them here.
Cheers
