Dual lamp control / lights?

Post by Snelvuur »

All,

My mailbox is outside my house, i know i can easilly detect if somebody brought some mail, however.. if i come towards the house i cant see that i actually have mail.

I do however have a small light which "lights" up my house number. Only this is 1 type of color (white) is there a option to replace this white lamp with some other lamp which can do 2 colors and can be controlled remotely?

What i want to achieve is when i have mail, i can look at the house number light, and seeing some color i will know if there is mail or not (so i dont have to open the mailbox for nothing all the time)

Any ideas?

The rgb led gives an different color by different voltage.
You can use one voltage with different resistors.
Manage the different resistors with X10 module and HomeSeer.

would be a project on its own, i though there would be simple lights which have 2 colors.. or a build in one with x10 or something..

If there is room for an extra (fitting) module inside the lamp you can put one in and connect this in parallel to the existing lamp. This module then can be switch on/off remotely

its a small light behind the "number plate" of the house, and its inside the wall. Not really much room for extra's, i know for instance you have those small leds that can produce different colors...

I can also just send myself a sms when he came.. :P

Erik,

what about RGB flex strip.

Use black and red wire together and you have red , use black and blue you will have blue.
Make 2 connections, default blue , and when mail (post) is arrived use the red wire also.

You can make a connection true x10 sensor or something on the mailbox.

see drawing :

It would be difficult I expect

I'll try and "open" up the plate in front of the light right now. To see how much room i also have to play with. I know there is a cable for the buzzer going back to the fusebox, so i could pull a extra wire in there (i hope) that would give me more options. Will let you guys know the outcome. Moving all my crap right now, its a horror..
