difference between CM11 and CTX35 interface

Post by binkiem »

On the website of bwired he tells that the CTX35 is preferrable above the Marmitek CM11 (usb) interface. Can someone tell me why?

I would like to interface with Homeseer and would also like to have feedback/status (eg. about dim levels) info to my new Pronto TSU9400 (with a RFX9400) which can be use for TCP/IP communication.

Thanx

http://wiki.binkey.nl/Xanura here you see a couple of improvements against x10.. check out the pronto forum. There is a plugin for homeseer to use with your pronto.

In my opinion one of the best features of the CTX35 above the CM11 is that it uses a human-readable protocol over it's serial port. The CM11 uses a binary protocal that's impossible to mimic using a serial terminal.

One of the problem I'm experiencing with a CM11 is the size of its internal receive buffer: It is too small to hold two extended dim commands. So if I press two dimmer switches withing 1..2 seconds, the second message is not noted by my server. I assume the CTX35 doesn't suffer from this because it's a much more professional device. I'll get myself one too soon.

Handling of the received data by the CTX is not that good and the fact that you have to poll the device to get the received data is not the way I like it.

I never had a CM11, but i can say i'm very satisfied with my ACT TI-213 (functionally equivalent to CTX35). It will never let you down.

I use it with a Ocelot.
Ocelot is connected to my PC.
PC is running Homeseer.
Ocelot can be programmed with it's ladder software and does the basic X-10 stuff. This way when the PC is down, basic stuff is still working.
It is also my interface to the motion sensors and other wired stuff with the secu16.

Is it USB or RS232?

Thanks.

I bought it in a Dutch webshop, http://www.elekhomica.nl.
They don't sell it anymore.

This is where they come from:

It's RS232.
