DMX over zigbee
Here are some pictures of DMX parts that I received from :
http://www.thewillows.nl (dutch only, german/english is here : http://www.dmx4all.de/
zigbee receiver :
(You need another one of these, configured as transmitter.
The transmitter will be connected to your DMX controller)
You can have multiple receivers, connected to one transmitter...
6 channel DMX dimmer, 2A per channel, 5A total:
RGB strips (36 LED's 12V, 34cm, 280mA) :

here is my netremote screen that shows RGB scrollbars and colour preview
this controls the color SETPOINT for all rgb ledstrips and rgb panels.
the panels/ledstrips(also x10 dimmers) go on/off automatically when the room is occupied/unoccupied.
moving the scrollbars, will have immediate effect in the rooms that are currently occupied...
(of course it's easy to control the colour of each ledstrip/rgb panel separately, it would just require a more elaborate user interface)
the left scrollbar is the dim level setpoint for all my x10 dimmers in all rooms
(again, it's easy to control the dim level of each x10 dimmer separately, it would just require a more elaborate user interface. I have currently set all x10 dimmers that are in the same room, to the same X10 address, so they dim at the same time. but that is not necessary)

looks nice and easy if you show it like that

one thing that I noticed is that the receiver updates about 2-3 times per second.
so, if you want to have a smooth fading effect from off to on, then you probably need a wired solution...

Thanks for sharing this information! The refresh rate is indeed something to consider, as most people would want to have smooth color fades. I think I'll stay with the daisy chain then.

these are some more ledstrip experiments :
same ledstrips as above :
different setup :
in above example, there are 2x 6m led strips.
One pointing up and another pointing down, each color is controlled separately...
I used these parts :
2x 12V power supply :
http://www.ledtuning.nl/catalog/product ... cts_id=486
2x DMX dimmer :
http://www.ledtuning.nl/catalog/product ... cts_id=420
12m ledstrip 12V 60leds/m (they came on 4 reels of 3m) :
http://www.ledtuning.nl/catalog/product ... cts_id=327
plastic 18mm 'H' profiles and foam plinths from the d.i.y. store and lots of double-sided sticky tape
(and also an additional zigbee DMX receiver)

It looks really sharp.. i have to say one of the better good looking projects. But then again i like color lights. I just bought the philips imageo candle lights. You tilt them and they turn on. Rechargeble. Looks almost the same as a normal candle. Things like this is just fun.

one application of 'dynamic' color change :
the bottom led strip turns red, once I enter the room and there are unread emails. If there are new voicemails, then the bottom strip turns green. Leaving the room, turns all lighting off...
(Before, I only had the unread mail announcement, by flashing an indicator on my netremote UMPC and by playing this wav file http://www.xs4all.nl/~mhwlng/Mail.wav once [:)])

Did you mount this at the ceiling btw? Is it half way in the room? can you show a picture from further away to get an impression on how it hangs around in the room?

If you look at for example the red picture, you can see the top of my sofa and you can also see the ceiling.
I mounted the strips exactly at (my) eye height.
basically spanning the full width of one wall..
it is only experimental, so I didn't hide the wires etc. and I used double sided tape...
I am not 100% happy with the result (as the only room lighting)....
I think that I might start to use my 260W halogen lights again, which look better..
Or perhaps mount the leds in a different way, only as mood lighting.
I'm not sure...
These 60 led/m lights are quite bright, so if you mount them on the ceiling, you should do it in such a way that they don't shine directly into your eyes ...

Do you expect the same colors/intensity can be archived with RGB Led strips like this: http://www.domoticaforum.eu/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=944 ?

The difference is already discussed in the thread that you mention:
see my post '28 March 2008 : 16:40:01' in that thread..
