Anyone here used "escrow.com"

Post by Noel »

I'm about to do a domain transfer for a nice amount of cash. (I'm the seller)
The buyer would like to use "escrow.com".

Anyone here ever used escrow.com? If so, how do I get the cash from my "escrow.com" account to my Rabo bank account?
I do see that "escrow.com" takes 3.25% of the amount. I will let the buyer pay this extra fee (as he want's to use escrow.com)

Are there any other hidden fees? (Like a transfer fee from escrow to my Rabo account)?

Thank you for any info on this.

I just google'd on this and it looks safe:

Although it wouldn't be my way of doing business, where does the other party come from?

The other party is from Italie.

The thing I do not like it that all is done in US dollars, and that "till now" I can not find a way to transfer cash from escrow.com to my Rabo account.

There are still some ways to deal via escrow.com and still do 'misschief'. If the other party is from europe like you say I'd say you use normal banking via IBAN, it's probably safer and cheaperthan escrow which is used in some scams as well...
Escrow itself has a page with tips for using it safely, but there are also many examples of using this service to scam...

Thank you for the info j.hoekstra,

I just got a reply from Escrow.com
Hello,

All transactions are in US Dollars.

The payment to you would be coming from Escrow.com, not the buyer.

Your disbursement options are:

International:
check via overnight FedEx............................$60
wire transfer.................................................$40
check by regular US mail...............................no charge

Thank you,
So.. For me Escrow is no option.
Rabo charges about $80 US to process a check.
Wire transfer is no option.

I'm going to try to go for the bank to bank transfer (IBAN)

wester union always works nice ... ;p but i doubt he will do that. i normally use IBAN for these kinds of things.. but its hard to say "send me the cash, then i transfer it" because how does he know your good for it.

Give the guy a written and signed letter/confirmation that you will transfer the domain within 14 days after receiving the money on account xxx (with all the details he needs for transfering th money internationally.)
If he doesn't except, don't do it. When people force you in a certain direction with only one option, it stinks.
