Rfid and alarm security

Post by drmacchi »

Hi all, i found in the forum something about Cheapertronics RFID transmitters, i have some questions for HiTECH people[:)].
My desired goal: rfid- detection system -> i have sc-9000 alarm system , i would realize a system that detects thieves without waiting them trying to open door or windows with x10-security sensors. so i could use motion detector tm13, that detects people ,this will create an input to a software like Homeseer, but this could create false alarms because of my 80'Kgs dog running everywhere outside too. So tm13 input , PLUS RFID detection ! is tm13 detects, Homeseer starts to look for a RFID transmitter if it exist -> NO ALARM . If no RFID outside, it starts alarm Horn. this means that my dog and family people will wear a small rfid transmitter. Could it work? If yes , how do you manage rfid in homeseer i don't see software in cheapertronic website. someone using this rfid hardware with homeseer? Best regards.

Rfid and alarm security

Hi Lorenzo
Do you know this one http://www.iautomate.com/homeseer_rfid.html
Motion sensors outside and specially TM13 are not that reliable, you should test it good before you blow a horn :-)
I think this is difficult to accomplish.

Hi Pieter, yes i know that, but the problem was price almost 600 dollars. The other solution was really cheap. In fact it's Chepaertronic... :) , why Rfid systems so similar have so big price differences? Any ideas more? Best regards.

I have some of the cheapertronics RFID stuff at my place. The 8m keyfobs give me "at most" 8 meters (read: mostly not), the 40m transmitter is better but that one is a bit large to carry with you all the time. You can improve range by using an external power supply on the receiver and add an external antenna. I still have to try those things.

Hi Droezel, you think that rfid + tm13 motion detection could be a good system to start an alarm without false events? then is there a plugin already in homeseer (if you use that) to manage rfid devices or i need something else (big problem because i'm not a software developer!). regards. lorenzo

There is a cheaperRfid plugin for homeseer available, and it's free by the way!

About your idea, from my point of view the RFID system isn't reliable enough to use on your alarm system. You get tags that drop out sometimes even when they are 2 meters next to the receiver. You increase the dropout time to a couple of minutes to minimise this but I find this not ideal. Maybe reliability becomes better when you use an external antenna and power supply for the receiver.

And also, suppose your dogs are asleep and locked away in their cage... You and your family are away for the evening. The RFID tags from the dogs prevent that the alarm system activates, so the burglars can enter freely! Just a thought...

Droezel you're right! good suggestion. so a new brain storming! My sc-9000 alarm central has an input for a wired alarm sensor. If i use simple volumetric alarm sensors (used in all bulk alarm systems without domotica functions) how can i connect them , because i have only one input and on the other side many sensors?
