Ofcourse the ranges are only with normal line of sight etc etc, but it should extend it so i can use it all around/in the house if i am correct.

Instead of going for rfid which is also a solution i want to use this as to see if someone is home or not.

I also found a nice piece of linux script to go with it (but ofcourse you can use this device with windows too and homeseer + plugin for bluetooth) which sends a email when someone is around and gone (which is an example but can be worked further on)

in that range you can hack lot of BT devices...

Well its more likely you get about 10x normal range of a bluetooth, so say around 100 meters. (thats more accurate)

Well i got it, hooked it up to my homeseer.. only to find out windows 2k3 doesn't have a bluetooth stack.. bummer.. so i hooked it up to my vista pc.. still have to test how far it will reach.. but i managed to find 3 wanadoo liveboxes in the neighbourhood.. so thats 3 different buildings allready where its receiving from, and about 5 different phones from people in house.

So i can safely say this one does give a better range.. i will test with my gf at some point how far she can be away and still be detected..

like i said on the other forum post, my homeseer is working on win2k, so no bluetooth. I only tested it with windows vista, and was capable of seeing much more things then a normal bluetooth dongle. How far it really is i dont know though..

And yes, the order came straight from there website.

I need to change my power groups, in order to let x10 work normal. Since i'am moving next year, i dont want to invest in this house, so my homeseer is a bit on a low stand. (although i still check around a lot of stuff ofcourse)

Any more experiences on this BT receiver? I'm seriously thinking of getting one, but as Erik I'm running win2K3 and Homeseer.

i would say, forget it.. dont try and get bluetooth working on the server, its a hell i tried all those funky websites with the "now it works!" and i didn't get any further. At the moment its sitting somewhere in my house, awaiting installation with domotiga.. will let you know how that works out (but hey thats linux)
