What kind of solutions do you have?
Every now and then, not to often, my homeautomation pc is going down, mostly on times when I am away from my house. The pc hangs and need to be booted but the problem is, the pc cannot be reached from another location then my home. So what I need is my pc connected to a switch which always can be reached for switching. In the bios I have arranged that when there is a powerloss the pc will start automaticly after the power is up again. I now there is a SMS switch on the market http://www.necoso.com/sms%20switch.htm which seems to be a solution to the problem. Does anyone have experience with some kind of switch or is there perhaps another solution possible?

I'm using Vmware
My homeseer is running as guest on Win 2003
On Win 2003 there are no other process running that can make the host instable.
If i can't reach the Homeseer server...in 99,9% the host system is available.

@ldborn: i would just fix your pc.. one of the most commen errors for strange reboots is fans not running anymore, or things get to hot. My normal vista machine always stays on, and never reboots unless a update comes out. Same for my linux server (which never hangs actually)
I think there was a topic like this before, and they referred also to wake up on lan for instance, but then first your pc has to be down. You could also use x10 to switch the pc on and off, but then you need another device for that. Perhaps there is a easy way to hook a old phone up and use it to make contact on a remote x10 sender.
I have a phone hooked to my linux box, so when there are issues i can still use that to control and turn on/off things.

I just ordered a GSM module for my PowerMax alarmsystem.
With this module and an X10 security interface I am able to remotely switch on/off up to 15 X10 modules (PLCBUS will be supported soon). I intend to use it for switching on/off several appliances in my home. Just send an SMS message to your system and you are done.
Should you have a Visonic PowerMax alarm system installed, you might consider this as an option.

GSM-200 - Intern GSM modem voor Powermax Pro

Yes. Fix your PC. It should not do this! And yes, WOL/WOR needs to work from a properly shut down ACPI state S3, S4, S5.
Although I would never dream of attempting to use Windows for anything serious, if you're determined to try then this kind of thing http://www.quancom.de/qprod01/eng/pb/pwdog1 might be worth a look. The next problem you will hit is that although they will reboot your PC for you, they won't answer the dialogs about missing drivers or corrupted registries... (8-)

Yes, exactly the module I ordered.
You can remotely switch on/off the alarm system, operate the PGM output and activate lights (up to 15 X10 codes).
Check page 21 of the 'User Manual' (not the installation manual) for more details.

It should arrive tomorrow.
I do not have X10 capability yet (The house is fitted with PLCBUS and the PLCBUS security interface is not yet available for sale (but should be available soon). Rather than installing an XM10 and a X10<-->PLCBUS interface I decided to wait for the PLCBUS security interface.
Among ABUS doorlocks that are on my list I needed a simple means of being able to remotely switch on/off certain appliances. The GSM-200 is not cheap, but integrates nicely with the PowerMax Pro. It also offers the basic functionality I need and does not involve extensive programming on the Domotica PC to make it do anything.
And also handy, sometimes I forget to switch on the alarm when I leave the house. A simple SMS message will then arm it.

By the way the sms switch I mentioned in the first post http://www.necoso.com/sms%20switch.htm is 425 euro. I think that's very expensive but it seems to be a nice peace of hardware. It is able to transmit on 433mhz so when it is possible for the device to 'talk' with the rfxcom reciever/transmitter this could be interesting.
