RGB LED Strip 5 Meters

Post by Bwired »

Guys, whats your opinion about this RGB LED strip. I'm planning to have a RGB led strip In my hall all the way up to the attic and controlling it with home automation etc. Price is 114 euro.
Any alternatives

***Flexible, Slim line, Ease of installation, Very long life***

The full colour ribbon led strip series is a family of flexible, super high brightness LED strip lighting designed for use in interior applications.

Its small size, cool light output and modular design give it flexibility in installation into confined spaces such as pelmets, coffers and coves.

The 100 to 120 degrees wide angle beam ensures that the surface being illuminated is bright and even. The self adhesive backing tape (Brand: 3M) also lends itself for use in furniture, room and lighting/display design.

One meter of rgb led strip produces equivalent light output to a 35w halogen lamp. Using the appropriate led controller it is possible to adjust the brightness of the led without any flickering (not all led controllers are capable for led dimming).

did you see this thread :

http://www.domoticaforum.eu/topic.asp?w ... PIC_ID=637

my Post from 05 January 2008 : 19:28:10

starting at the second picture, you see 12 metres of similar led strip, the first picture uses different type of leds

note that I already replaced both 12V power supplies, don't buy those...

note that my strips are 60 leds/meter, yours are 30 leds/meter

Hi Marcel
Yes of course I saw the topic [:)], but there is a big price difference too.
And for moodlight like you installed as mentioned in your topic do I need the extra leds?

<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">probably not, but note that this light is mostly used indirectly,
i.e. you use it to make a wall a certain colour.

If you have bright lights (e.g. halogen) near that wall
you won't see the led colour at all on the wall/ceiling...

according to the specs : 504mm needs 300mA at 12V (100mA per colour)
so (with my very limited math skills[:D]) : 5meter needs 3A

(on the main page you see 1A/channel)

(to compare, the strips that I used, would require 4A for 5meter
I've got 12m -> 9.6A at 12V )

Hi Pieter,

The LED-strip you mentioned seems very similar to the RGB LED-strip that is offered by http://www.led1.de of which I'm using 6,5 meters in our kitchen as "plint-verlichting". It works as expected, but be careful if you ever need to remove it: you might rip off some of the smd-resistors and soldering these is no fun... ;-)

The reason why I think it's the same is:

1) They look very similar.
2) Hi-line is offering some other products that are sold by led1 as well. Hi-line is much more affordable though (5 meter of LED-strip would cost EUR 450,- @ Led1).

A very useful device is: http://www.hiline-lighting.com/pd-dmx51 ... ler-3a.cfm. The price @ hi-line is 54 euros. Led1 is charging EUR 130,-.

Thanks for the link; I'll definitely order some stuff here if needed.

Hi Lennart,
I saw that DMX controller as well, I could not believe the price.
What would be a good power adapter for this 5m RGB Led stripe combined with a (DMX) controller.
BTW the shop is in Greece!

Hi Pieter,

I guess they order their container-loads from the same Chinese manufacturer but their local market expects lower prices? Only one way to find out if they deliver the same stuff: order a batch :-).

I'm using this power supply:

http://www.led1.de/shop/product_info.ph ... behoer-c-7

But I guess http://www.hiline-lighting.com/cat_led_power_supply.cfm would be fine as well.

Hi Pieter,

One more thing: you need a DMX interface as well. I'm using a Lanbox, as first mentioned by mhwlng/Marcel in http://www.domoticaforum.eu/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=580. It's one of these devices that just works the way you want/expect it to work.

P.S. Post 100! Finally a senior member (though the forum doesn't use it anymore) ;-).
